Kamieniec Castle
Kamieniec Castle is the ruin of a Gothic building from the 14th century, expanded in the Renaissance style in the 16th century, located on the border of Korczyna and Odrzykoń in the Krosno district, in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship in Poland.
The Gothic building erected on a rock at an altitude of 452 m above sea level was characterized by an irregular form resulting from the terrain. In the times of Casimir the Great, the castle served as a typical defensive border fortress. Currently, the part with the preserved pointed arch portal and the eastern wall with a niche is known as the "high" or "Odrzykoń" castle. Its main task was to defend the trade route from Poland to Hungary through the Dukla Pass.
The expansion of the castle towards the east, carried out in 1448, resulted in the creation of the "lower" or "Korczyń" castle. At the same time, the construction of a rectangular tower and a moat surrounding the entire castle was completed. The castle tower housed an armoury and a prison. The newly created courtyard, known as the Korczyn Castle, was separated by a boundary wall from the high castle due to the division of the estate. The chapel and the well were common to both parts of the castle. During the expansion, the castle was enriched with Renaissance buildings.
